ARTIST STATEMENT:
In the last couple of years I have been drawn to old books, particularly their foxed yellowing pages and their faded and worn cloth covers. Something about the soft colours and textures has driven me to collect these and incorporate them into my abstract works. I work with the papers and cloth covers much as I would with paint, trying to find balance and depth , layering, peeling off, revealing hidden areas underneath. My love of paint comes into these pieces in the form of hits of high colour, usually neon to lift the old faded colours and bring them new life. These pieces reflect my love of colour and although some may seem overly sentimental they mirror deeply personal life changes that are happening to me now.
BIOGRAPHY:
I studied Fine Art at both John Moores University and Wolverhampton University and received a 2:1 BA hons in Fine Art. I currently live in Oxford and paint in my Victorian garden studio.
I was represented by CCA galleries from 1998 - 2002 where I was given a solo show in Farnham and several group shows. I was taken to multiple Affordable Art Fairs during these years. then I took a break from painting to raise two children. In 2008 I was taken on a two week print signing tour of Japan.
Since painting full time from 2016 I have entered and exhibited in many Open exhibitions, my work has been moving away from painting into mixed media and I feel like I’m just at the beginning of this journey and have so much more to explore.
